PRAYERS FOR THE WORLD is a collection of Paul Lloyd Warner’s favorite choral compositions that were recorded in the 1990s. The composition you are now listening to is entitled PARADISE ON EARTH which is scored for string orchestra, cello and choir. There is a beautiful story attached to this composition. While exhibiting his music at an art show on Whidbey Island in Washington State in 1992, a gentleman came up to the composer and asked him for a moment of his time.  He showed him a picture of a young man who was his son. The man, who was accompanied by his wife, started to weep.  He said that his son, whose name was Thor, had died in a fishing accident in Alaska the year before.  A rope caught around his leg and pulled him out to sea.

The gentleman reported that he had been looking for a composer who would be willing to create a piece of music that would commemorate Thor’s life. He asked Paul if he would be willing to compose such a piece and he added that he did not have much money and could not afford to pay for such services. Paul Lloyd Warner was deeply moved by such a request and immediately said yes, of course.

A few months later PARADISE ON EARTH was recorded and placed into a CD entitled MOUNTAINS. The composer sent the CD to Thor’s parents in Washington and received words of praise, joy and eternal gratitude from them.
